Hello All,

It is that time of year again to renew your membership with SMCPA. The association understands that each year you are making a choice to continue to support your local chapter. Your ongoing support contributes to the strength and viability of our profession and allows SMCPA to provide continuing education events, networking opportunities and social events, as well as providing your link to our state and national associations (CPA and APA). I hope you are able to take advantage of the many benefits of being a member of SMCPA and that you will consider participating in the quarterly board meetings.

As incentive to renew early, we are encouraging members to renew by November 1st in order to participate in a drawing to win a free membership for 2012 (the winner will be announced at the holiday party). Please login to the members only section to renew on-line. Thank-you for your support and please let me know if you have any comments or questions.

The San Mateo County Psychological Association grew from a small collegial gathering of psychologists in 1975 into a full service organization that strives to serve its members with vital and timely information regarding the professional and ethical practice of psychology. The core intent of our efforts is to offer the public a broad range of services that respond to the needs and welfare of all human beings and that are delivered in a manner that is respectful of diversity.

SMCPA members have access to continuing education programs, consultation on legal, ethical, social, and economic issues that affect the practice of psychology, colleague assistance services, and a practice development network for new practitioners.

SMCPA is responsive to the public welfare in several ways. First, we offer an Information and Referral call-in-service to the community which provides psychological information and referrals geared to specific client needs. We also provide educational articles for newspaper and radio distribution and a pro bono speakers bureau that’s available to community service organizations. We are also committed to participation in National Depression Screening Day and Red Cross disaster relief.

In 1976 SMCPA became a chapter of the California Psychological Association (CPA), a state association of the American Psychological Association (APA). The APA is the national psychological association with over 150,000 members in the United States and Canada. SMCPA has adopted the ethical standards and guidelines for professional practice of the APA and the State of California.

SMCPA operates a Speakers Bureau which provides psychologists to speak to any community group as a free public service.
